Tips for efficient 3D graphic design

3D Design is an element of graphic design. A lot of today’s graphics come in 3D and there are certain tips to enable you make an efficient 3D design. 3D offers you a 3-directional design, width, height and depth. It lets you explore your product or idea.

You can combine your skills in art with designing with softwares. With 3D design, users can see the end product and know how it looks like. Designers can see all perspectives of the objects from a single model of 3D printing. What you use for 3D printing is on the industry and object. The tips below will help you with your graphic design.

Select the proper software

The software you select is dependent on personal preferences. Various options are available for 3D modeling. This include the software you can study and use freely. Select the software that is most comfortable for you to work with. The best software is the one with full function.

Understand that software

Use manuals, videos, forums, and tutorials to study new software techniques. Help is often available if you don’t know much. Watch those tutorials for a new technique or do something new. Visit forums for more help.

Begin simply

Study 3D design the same way you study a new language. You can study the pronunciation, context, sentence structure, words and letters. Study how it feels and sounds. Combine them together. When studying 3D design, you have to know various techniques and elements to get designs. Begin by making the basics like cubes, pyramids and triangles. Keep the designs simple till there is confidence to tackle its complexity. You have to make the skills and understand its process. Once you master this, go on to master more concepts and complex shapes.

Get experimental

Be experimental. You can study by experimenting with various features. Check out various tools and different technologies to study how to use it. Discover how they function without a particular goal. Make some time each week for a new technique.

Make short-term goals

When making 3D designs, create short-term goals. Even though you can have long-term projects to handle, apply the proper skills. Create timelines to study new technologies. It can take time to make complex 3D masterpieces, but you can study in a short time.

Don’t neglect topology

It is necessary to get edge and topology for a seamless animation. This is the organisation, structure and flow of the entire elements. Avoid neglecting topology. Make it right and modify designs.

  • Do not use N-gons in 3D design, this refers to polygons with 5 sides upwards. It is a harder model, with hidden and around joints.
  • Clean the artifacts.
  • Subdivide it evenly.
  • Use more circular loops on the joints like knees and elbows for a smoother bending.
  • Create all face quads so as not leave artifacts. Quads can subdivide perfectly.

Don’t always use a seamless mesh

You don’t always have to use a single seamless mesh. See what you design and check out how it functions in the world. You can  use that as a guide for the design. You can model parts as 2 pieces if you want. This does not function with 3D printing and game art, otherwise you have to use mesh models that are single and seamless.

Add lightening for a difference

When you have a lifeless and flat design, you can make a difference by adding lightening to it. Soften it for a realistic feel.

Omni light has no cast shadows. It can serve as fill source or fill light.

  • Use directional light that doesn’t focus on particular things.
  • Ambient light comes from various directions and you can’t see the source.

Plan ahead

Have a plan, even before you design. Sketch it out to see what it looks like. Scan it out and add it to your image planes for your design.
