How to Make a Rubber Stamp

Using business stamps is essential in today’s business. A Singapore rubber stamp helps to find a business. Rubber stamps save time spent on signing loads of documents. Automatic stamps stamp documents in a short time. This post talks about how to make a rubber stamp.

Tools for making a rubber stamp

Muslin bag and strong adhesives are optional and are among the hardest glues. Block or wooden disk are optional. Rulers, craft knife and stamp pads are among the tools. The stamp pads have various colours. A plain white paper, eraser and pencil are among the tools.  Carving blades and carving rubber are among the tools.

Carving techniques

One

First draw out a design on paper and then cut out a section. With a ruler, get a relative dimension and cut a part of it with a craft knife. Example you can cut out 2″ for a design of 1.75.

Two

Place that design on the carving rubber and use an eraser or fingernail to brush the back. Lift up a side and see how it transfers and then go on to burnish.

Three

Use the blade on the tool and then cut across outside that design. Cut out the section you don’t want to stamp.

Four

Place the larger blade on the carving tool after cutting across outside that design. Then finish carving off the space that’s off the design.

Five

This is optional but makes your stamp clearer. Cut out the shallow way with a craft knife, this should be parallel to the carving rubber surface.

Six

Place the smaller blade to the tool for cutting and carve the letters out. Carving the letters involve using one angle.

Seven

After carving out, blow off or clean off the dust from rubber and apply ink to the stamp. Use ink from a basic dye and get a sample. Carve off any section of the rubber that did not show up. You may choose to mount your custom stamps on a wooden block. It gives a nice outlook and increases the pressure when pressing the stamp down. Cut off any section that does not fit into the surface of the wooden block. You can turn a square to circle and apply a strong adhesive like E6000, epoxy or super glue. Remember to stamp the above the above wooden surface before glueing down the rubber.

Things to note

  • Using shallow cuts gives you extra control.
  • Ensure that you are cutting below 45°. Cut away often.
  • Rotate the rubber when cutting to navigate the curves.

You can place paper under the carving rubber to turn.
